Welcome to Reception
|Blackbird Class||Sparrow Class||Robin Class|
Last week it was Art week so we were creating lots of art.
We have made aliens, spaceships and we worked together to create a large space ship with Key stage 1 that will be displayed in school.
We have also read the story The First Hippo on the Moon.
We have started to practise for Sports Day too.
Year R have had a great week learning about the tales of Peter Pan and Tinkerbell and writing some amazing sentences about them.
They are really beginning to use their sounds and sound out unknown words effectively.
We can't believe it is almost the end of the year but the children have had such a good first year in school and we are starting to think about making the move to Year 1 as smooth as possible for them all.
This week we have been writing our won versions of the story The Billy Goats Gruff.
We have each made one for another class in the year group.
It has been fun being creative and choosing our characters for our stories.
We have been learning about measuring and money in maths.
We are still waiting for our butterflies to emerge from their chrysalides.
Please check Marvellous Me for updates on them over the holiday.
When we return for Term 6 please make sure the children have sun hats and sun lotion.
Last week we read the story ‘The Naughty Bus’.
It has been fun learning about all of the things it does and the places it visited.
We have been thinking a lot about adjectives this week especially to describe the bus and the places he went to.
In Maths we have started learning about time and our routines.
In Phonics we have continued to consolidate our knowledge of Phase 3 digraphs and trigraphs.
Please ensure you look at the dates for any events that are happening next week.
This week we have been learning about being safe when we are using the internet.
We watched a story about a penguin called Smartie who learnt that you should always ask a grown up for help when you are unsure about something on your device.
We have also been learning about Chinese New Year.
We looked at where China is on a map and also about how they celebrate the new year.
In phonics we have been learning more Phase 3 sounds we have learnt oo, or, ur and ar.
If you have any of our spare clothes at home please can you return them as we are running low.
If you have any old uniform that you could donate then please do.
Year R have been very busy performing our Christmas Nativity.
The children have worked really hard on their singing and remembering what they have to say.
Thank you to everyone who came to watch it.
We have also been busy making things for Christmas which you will see very soon.
We have been very busy with all of our Christmas activities, we hope you like them.
Thank you to all parents who came to our Open Afternoon yesterday—it was great to see you in school.
Happy Christmas to all.
We have been reading the story of The Gingerbread Man recently.
We have sequenced the story and written the names of some of the characters using our phonic skills.
It is great to see the children using their phonic knowledge to read simple CVC words.
We would like to take this opportunity to say well done to those of you who are regularly interacting with Bug Club and reading the five books that are allocated each week.
It is evident during our phonics sessions who are.
Next Friday, 23rd November, the year group are going to explore Forest School please ensure your child has their wellies at school.
This week in Year R we have been learning about the numbers 0-5.
We have looked at what each number looks like and how it can be represented in different ways.
In Phonics we have been experimenting with the different sounds we can make with our voices.
We have looked at alliteration too this week.
WE all made aliens and gave them funny names like Ping Pang Pong and Fee Fi Faddle.
In PE we have been learning to throw a bean bag underarm.
Please remember to ensure that all of the clothes that your child has at school have their names on them.
We do our best to return items to their owners and names really help!
Well done everyone, we have now had our first full week at school.
We loved the visit from the farm on Thursday. It was so nice to see the animals up close.
This week we have been getting to know our environment and making new friends.
This week has marked a lot of firsts for us, our first time staying for lunch, our first music lesson and our first PE lesson.
Please can we ask that you make sure your child has their trainers or plimsolls in their PE kit as we will be introducing changing for PE next week.
It is advisable to provide your child with a tracksuit in their kit too as the lesson could be outside.
Please sign up to Marvellous Me.
