Welcome to Reception
|Blackbird Class||Sparrow Class||Robin Class|
This week in Year R we have been reading the story Mr Wolf’s Pancakes.
We tried pancakes and we wrote about eating them too.
In maths we have been learning about sorting and what numbers are 1 more or 1 less than a number.
Next week is Book Week.
There are lots of really lovely and exciting things planned.
We hope you have thought of an interesting word for dressing up on World Book Day which is on Thursday 5th March.
This week we noticed that many of our children did not have their P.E kits in school for P.E days.
Please can you ensure that they are in school on the first day of every term.
The children had a fantastic time during maths week. They learnt about symmetry and created butterflies.
They also had to draw the other half of their faces. The maths apprentices helped reception to complete a Maths trail.
The children looked amazing on Rock Star day with their costumes and outfits.
Please remember to read with your child as much as possible.
Year R have been enjoying telling us all about what they did over the Christmas holidays and the fantastic presents that they received.
It was great to hear the excitement in their voices about all of the things that they had been doing during the holidays.
Please make sure that all children come in to school with nice warm clothes, including hat, gloves and scarf as even when it is chilly, we still use the outdoor space.
This week we have enjoyed reading the story of The Stickman.
We collected sticks and made our own stickmen and we wrote about the characters.
In Maths we have been thinking about patterns. We have been creating our own repeating patterns.
We have also been practising our Christmas play for you too.
We have been junk modelling in Blackbird Class and we would appreciate any clean recycling that you may have, boxes, tubes etc that the children can use to create with.
This week we have enjoyed watching Mary Poppins and we especially liked making kites like they do in the film.
We have started thinking about Christmas by writing letters to Santa and we are starting to learn the songs to our Christmas play.
In phonics we have now finished learning all of the Phase 2 sounds by learning b,h,f,ff,l and ll.
Please can you ensure that your child as a warm coat, hat, scarf and gloves in school every day.
It has got very cold recently and they can choose to play outside during Explorer Time and they all play outside at lunch.
Well done everyone for competing your first term in Year R.
This week in Year R we have been learning about the numbers to 4.
We have learnt what numbers make 4 and how to write it.
We have had our photo taken and been busy designing Christmas cards, which have been sent home this week.

This week we have started to learn Phase 2 sounds in Phonics.
We have learnt how to read and write the sounds s,a,t,p.
We hope you all have a lovely 2 week holiday and we look forward to hearing about all the fun things you do when we return.
Remember to look at your activity passport.
A huge well done to the children in Reception for having a fantastic first full week of school.
Children have all taken home story books to share with their grown ups at home, along with a reading record.
Please could you make a note in the record of any other books they read at home.
When books are ready to be changed please place them in the book boxes for changing.
PE Kits: Please ensure your child’s PE Kit is in school and items are clearly labelled.
Robins and Blackbirds have PE every Tuesday. Sparrows have it every Thursday.
