  • Family Food Bank Certificate

    Wed 15 Jul 2020

Halfway Houses received a very special award recently.

We received an apple pin badge and certificate in recognition of their continued support for helping the Family Food Bank/ FareShare through the Covid-19 period.

Marcus Rashford is leading a scheme for FareShare and helped raise £20m across the UK and championed the cause for Free Schools Meals over the Summer, which is why he received one of the apple pin badges. If they can get him to visit Kent they are hoping Halfway Houses will be top of his visit list!

As the badges normally go to individuals Halfway Houses are the first organisation/school in Kent to receive one and possibly across the UK. They wanted to acknowledge the support the school has given over this pandemic.

Since the 23rd March until 29th April, the Family Food Bank has delivered:

    2,251 Food boxes delivered

31,514 KG of food (31.5 tonnes)

    72,032 meals

    £56,275 estimated retail value

Over the same period last year, we delivered 676 food boxes, this means we have seen a 332% increase over the same period.

    For Halfway alone we have:

    Distributed 218 food boxes

3,052 KG of food (3.05 tonnes)

    Provided 6,976 meals

    £5,450 estimated retail value

This is nearly 10% of all the FFB boxes distributed!

FareShare Kent over the same period has:

Supported over 200 Charites and Community Groups across the county

    Delivered 298.38 tonnes of food

    £470,454 retail value

    769,820 meals

Compared to the same period last year, we have seen a 218% increase in food output.

  • Goodbye Miss Borner

    Wed 22 Apr 2020
Very sad news, that on Tuesday 21st April Miss Madge Borner died suddenly in Medway Hospital . She was, we believe, one of the oldest surviving ex-pupils (in her mid 90s) who started as a pupil at our school in 1932 and then became a teacher at Halfway from 1947-1988 - 41 years!!  She was Halfway through and through and loved meeting so many former pupils, especially, when we held our open day at the old site in October 2016. A formidable lady who will be missed by many! RIP Miss Borner! 🌈😔
