Please ensure that ALL your children’s clothing is named, including trousers, skirts and shirts. When the children get changed for PE it is hard for them to find the right white shirt if it is not named.
Please also ensure that the children have a named water bottle in school every day.
This week in Year R we have continued to learn about animals.
We have made class books about the animals we like with information about these.
Next week we are going to be thinking more about our transition to Year One.
We have been talking about what Year One is like and we have visited the classrooms.
We have used the Year One toilets and looked at where the new year One playground is.
Most of the children are taking this in their stride but if your child does have any worries, please let us know so that we can talk about them.

This week we have continued to learn about pirates.
We have made treasure maps, boats and read pirate stories.
We have been practising for sports day next week too.
On Friday we watched the school production of Treasure Island which was great.
Next week we will be learning about animals and their lives.
We will be going on our trip to Wingham on Tuesday so we will be learning about the animals that we see there.
Please make sure your child has suncream on and a hat as the weather looks hot for Tuesday.
As we start to talk about Year 1 we will be sending home spellings to learn as they will get them in Year One.
Welcome back to Term 6.
Wow where is this year going?!
This week we have started to learn about pirates and the adventures they go on.
We have been reading pirate books and looked at information about what they did.
We had a lovely surprise visit from James who works for Kent Cricket Club on Monday. He taught us how to bowl and catch a ball.
In PE this week we have stated learning new skills.
We are still in need of donations for our outside area, so if you have anything that was on the list then please see one of us.

This week in Year R we have read the stories Oliver’s Vegetables and The Enormous Turnip.
We have tried vegetables and written about the story.
We have solved maths problems with vegetables including adding and subtracting on a number line and weighing.
We have also watched all of our butterflies emerge from their chrysalis and have released them into our forest school area. We have loved watching our beans grow over the last week.
We are in awe of the green fingers Robin Class must have as theirs have grown so much more than Sparrows and Blackbirds.
We have ended the week with a lovely Royal Wedding party.
This week we have been learning about the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
We have written about the caterpillar and learnt about healthy and unhealthy foods.
We have learnt about the life cycle of a butterfly and we have some caterpillar guests in our classrooms for us to watch grow and change.
We have also been learning how to subtract this week.
In Phonics we have been learning Phase 3 High Frequency words and learning about 2 syllable words.
In PE we have started to learn the skills for cricket.
This week, Reception have had a great time participating in a construction competition organised by the company Astral.
At the beginning of the week we investigated different types of buildings and famous buildings from around the world.
We then designed our own buildings, which we followed to construct our own designs from recyclable materials.
In Phonics we have learnt the sounds ‘ow’ like in down and ‘oi’.
In Little Big Maths we have been counting in 2s and 10s, investigating pairs of numbers that make 10 and practising writing numbers to 20.
We have also been learning about odd and even numbers.
This week has been Book Week in our school.
We have read lots of books, talked about our favourite books and written about what it would be like in the ‘portal’ that appeared in our school hall.
The class also took a turn to write part of a story that we have written as a whole school.
We have been learning ar and or in Phonics and we have been learning tricky words too.

In Year R we have been continuing to learn about Traditional Stories.
It has been fun reading new stories and reading ones we know very well.
We have been learning the tricky words all, my and you.
We have also been learning the sounds ch, sh, th and ng.
We are really practising how to add and especially what numbers you add together to make 5,6,7 8 and 9.
Please remember that Love to Read sessions are every Friday at 2.30pm in our classrooms.
This week in Year R we have been learning the sounds V, W, X and the tricky words he, she, me, be and we.
We have been reading some traditional tales and been doing lots of activities about the stories we have read.
We have loved being able to be outside but as it is very cold warm coat and gloves are essential, maybe even a hat and scarf.
Please can we also remind you about the importance of reading with your child at home.
Your child also needs to be doing the task that we set in their scrapbook as it reinforces the learning that they have done in school this week.
This week in Year R we have been practising for our Christmas Nativity.
Thank you for all of their wonderful costumes, they really do look amazing.
We are looking forward to showing you all of our hard work on Tuesday morning.
Today we have had our pictures taken for the newspaper so look out for it .
We have had our Christmas Party which has also been so much fun ! We look forward to seeing you all for our Nativity and our Open Afternoon next week.

We have started to prepare for our Nativity.
We have loved starting to learn the songs.
Please send in costumes clearly labelled with your child’s name on the costume and the bag.
We have learnt about the birth of Jesus and why we celebrate Christmas.
In Phonics we have learnt the sounds h,b,f,ff,l,ll and ss.
We have also learnt the tricky words I, the, no and go.
We have loved learning about dinosaurs.
We have learnt about what they looked like, when they lived, the things they used to eat and many other things.
It has been amazing having our new outside area to explore this week.
We are all enjoying climbing on the new equipment.
In Phonics, we have now learnt the sounds I, n, m, d, g, o, c and k.
We have been learning to read and write words using these and the high frequency words a, an, as and.
This week in Year R we have been learning about Halloween and Bonfire Night.
We have loved reading stories about witches and creating things to do with Halloween.
We have learnt about The Gunpowder Plot, who Guy Fawkes was and why we celebrate Bonfire Night.
We have started learning Phase 2 Phonics this week.
We have learnt the sounds S,A,T and P.
Please help the children to write the letters cursively.
We have taught them that all the letters start and finish on the line.
Last week we learnt about hedgehogs and Percy the Park Keeper.
We made hedgehogs from a range of materials and homes for the creatures in the story After the Storm.
This week we have been learning about the festival of light, Diwali.
We learnt about the story of Rama and Sita and how the festival is celebrated.
This week we also started Boogie Tots which was so much fun.
Next term the Big Idea is ‘Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow.
We would like to say a big welcome to everyone.
We are really proud of how the children have settled into school and we are looking forward to them becoming full time next week.
We have been spending this week getting to know each other and mixing with the whole year group.
The children have enjoyed meeting new friends and spending time with children they knew previously.
Next week we will start PE so if you have not done so already, please can you ensure that your child has their PE kit fully named and placed on their peg by the beginning of the week.
We are looking for donations of pots and pans, spoons and plastic take away tubs.

We are looking forward to welcoming all of our new Reception children to Halfway Houses School to start their learning journey.
