As part of the Wider Opportunities programme Year 5 will spend their music lessons this year learning to play an orchestral instrument. The year group have been divided into four and children are learning either violin, viola, 'cello or flute. Check the relevant instrument pages for updates on progress!

Violin

The violin, also known informally as a fiddle, is a wooden string instrument with four strings and a bow made of wood and horse tail hair. Most violins have a hollow wooden body although you can also find solid, electric violins. It is the smallest and highest-pitched instrument in the string family. They come in many different sizes which make them perfect for children to learn.
